Fisheries Technician I
This position performs a variety of field work activities.The position may be assigned responsibility for collecting true/accurate/legally defensible field data and

completing field work related to the management and improvement of the Tribes’ natural resources.The position may provide input to the Fisheries Manager, Natural Resource Manager, and staff biologists regarding scheduling, activities and efficiencies relative to the successful completion of field projects.

Representative Examples of Work

The position cooperates with and often works with other federal, state, and local agencies as needed to successfully complete tribally
managed field activities. The position collects field data to evaluate potential impacts and support remedial actions.
In addition, the position will often collect data which will provide a technical basis for natural resource management decisions for the
tribe in meetings and negotiations with other natural resource management agencies and authorities.From February to June of each year, night and weekend work will be required.

Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills

Technical level knowledge of the life history of salmonids and shellfish as well as knowledge of specialized habitat needs of salmonids
and shellfish. Knowledge of the methods and techniques for collecting scientifically credible field data related to natural resource management.
Knowledge of the use of specialized equipment specific to fisheries field work and ability to improvise in-the-field solutions related to
malfunctioning and/or faulty equipment; ability to perform physically demanding tasks safely in inclement weather conditions and work unusual schedules and hours.

 Knowledge of treaty fishing rights including compliance with U.S. vs. Washington, Civil 9213, and subsequent orders.

Ability to express ideas effectively, both orally and in writing and ability to write narrative reports in a clear and succinct manner,
as well as proficiency with computer based word processors, databases, and spreadsheets. Ability to compatibly interact with tribal technical staff
as well as effectively handle difficult situations in dealing with the public and other agency personnel.

Minimum Recruiting Factors
Graduation from an accredited two year college with an Associate of Science (A.S.) degree focusing on natural resource (or related field) management and experience in natural resource management related field work.

 Valid Washington State driver license.
